Short runtimes, sudden shutdowns, refusal to charge and swollen cells all live in the power family. Measurement comes before replacement.
Power faults have a reputation for being misdiagnosed. A machine that will not charge might have a tired battery, a failed charging board, a damaged cable, a clogged port or a fault on the logic board. The only way to tell is to measure, and a good bench measures before it quotes a part.
Symptoms worth noting
Runtime that has collapsed over a few months. A machine that powers off the moment it is unplugged. A percentage that jumps or a warning that service is due, if your model shows one. A case that is bulging, a trackpad that is sitting proud, or a lid that no longer closes flush, all of which suggest a swollen cell. Heat at the charging port, a cable that needs to be held at an angle, or a machine that charges only after a reset.
A swollen battery is a safety matter. Stop using the machine, do not press on the case, and get it to a bench promptly. A swollen cell can damage the deck, the trackpad and the display as it expands.
How a bench checks the power path
The technician confirms the external supply, then inspects the port and cable, then measures the charging circuit and the battery health data the system reports. Only when the evidence points at the cell does the bench recommend a battery. When the charging board is the fault, replacing the battery alone would be wasted money, so this order matters.

A tested cell matched to the model, fitted with the correct adhesive and a check of charge behaviour.
Charging board
Damaged DC-in boards are repaired or replaced, then tested with the correct supply.
Port cleaning
Debris in the port is cleared so a cable seats fully before any part is considered.

Charge, hold and drain are checked so the machine behaves correctly before return.

Battery work is usually among the more predictable repairs because cells are commonly stocked, so a good bench can quote a fairly tight range. Battery care and what shortens life
Heat is the main enemy of a battery. A machine that runs hot, or that is charged while working hard in a warm room, ages faster than one that stays cool. Leaving a laptop plugged in at full charge for months on end also takes a toll, as does running it down to zero again and again. None of this is a fault, but it explains why two machines bought on the same day can have very different runtimes today.
A repair does not change how you use the machine, but it resets the part that has worn out. After a replacement, the bench reports the new charge behaviour so you know what to expect.
When charging is fine but the machine still misbehaves
Some power problems are not about the battery at all. Shutdowns under heavy load can come from heat, a failing fan or ageing thermal material. Charge that disappears overnight can point to an internal short. These cases are measured on the bench and routed onward if the fault turns out to belong to another family, such as the logic board.
